90’s Nostalgia – Was Whigfield a Satanist?

On the topic of 90's nostalgia, this post briefly highlights an unlikely discovery that was recently brought to my attention concerning the video for Whigfield's 1994 hit 'Saturday Night'. Whilst sat around in a friend's living room for a small get-together earlier this summer, said video appeared on the T.V. switched to some crappy freeview music channel. Mid-sentence, my friend Will suddenly stopped and announced that he had caught a glimpse of a horned beast amidst shots of Whigfield singing into a hair-dryer.

Although my initial reaction was to slowly inch away from him in the fear that he might be going all Linda Blair on us - sure enough, in the video Whigfield appears to be engaged in an act of idolatry with a picture of a man made to look like the devil. The following are mostly single frame shots that pop-up in the video. When seen together, they arguably convey a subliminal message of devil-worship.

Obviously, I felt compulsed to share this strange and wonderful bit of 90’s music trivia.

Oh Thank The Lord. I thought it was just me!

I had a sudden flashback in the pub tonight of watching this video as a kid, and I remembered the devil pic. I got home and you tubed it...lo and behold, the Devil exists and he was, apparantly, sticking it to the blonde cutie aka Whigfield.

Is it a metaphor for the music industry in general or was Satan actually serving her 12" of devilishly hot pork sword?

I watched the video recently and I read a comment of somebody saying "OMG WTF?" and a link to a specific part of the video, and I was really really scared when I watched that, there must be an evil intention in this,

I have been haunted by this image for YEARS. I am so relieved that other people have also been intrigued by this as much as I have. What could it be!?

She explained this picture on a interview...it's one of her producers dressed up in a funny costume for mardi gras or something...actually it's more a statement against pretty good looking boys...she picked the ugliest instead. going against the stereoypes...it's funny actually. Many times after finishing a concert she says "God Bless you" how can she be a fucking satanist?
